National Pain Week 2021

Next Wave Pain Care

Next Wave Therapy is one of Perth’s leading allied health pain therapy clinics.

Every July, National Pain Week is a time for us at Next Wave to refocus on chronic pain, the therapy we provide and the supports available to people living with pain. This year the National Pain Week (Jul 26 – Aug 1) theme is connection.

With the prevalence of chronic pain projected to increase as Australia’s population ages – from around 3.2 million in 2007 to 5 million by 2050, it is more important than ever that we build connection and support into our lives.

Social connection helps pain management

People living with chronic pain often feel isolated by their pain. This theme of connection is a reminder to friends, family and professionals that connection is key to addressing the social isolation that pain can create. This means we all need to be proactive in “touching base ~ reaching out ~ checking in” with the people in our lives who live with chronic pain.

Blue Tree Day

In this vein Next Wave Therapy are hosting Blue Tree Day at Hilton Harvest Community Garden on Fri July 30th. The Blue Tree campaign is all about starting conversations around mental health and making it “ok to not be ok” .This day is also the National Day of Friendship.

Family Support

Research shows that when a person’s partner, friend or parent understands pain and takes the role of a “pain coach’ or “pain buddy” their pain is better managed. If you want to find out more feel free to book a discovery session with Sasha Wray (Occupational Therapist).

Seek support

This year’s theme also encourages people to connect with their bodies and to acknowledge their pain. Equally, it encourages people to seek support and advice from others rather than ignoring it and suffering in silence.
